District 17 Earth Day
Help support the Idaho Humane Society for Earth Day 2026. District 17 Democrats are collecting pet food. Drop off any donations at Bikes and Beans on Vista Ave between 6am and 6pm, Monday through Saturday.
Below is some additional information and things you can do on your own.
Other Earth Day Benefits of Supporting the Idaho Humane Society
Reduces Landfill Waste: Donating unneeded pet food, gently used blankets, and towels diverts usable goods from local landfills, giving them a second life in the shelter.
Prevents Food Spoilage: By redirecting "near-expiry" or surplus pet food to the IHS Pet Food Pantry, you ensure the energy and resources used to produce that food are not wasted.
Lowers Carbon Emissions: Providing food to local families through the Pet Food Pantry helps pets stay in their original homes, avoiding the high carbon footprint associated with transporting and re-housing animals in a shelter environment.
Promotes Non-Toxic Living: Donating eco-friendly cleaners or natural litters helps the shelter maintain a safer, chemical-free environment for vulnerable animals and staff.
Supports Responsible Population Control: Funding low-cost spay and neuter programs directly reduces the number of stray animals, which helps protect local Idaho wildlife and maintains a balanced ecosystem.
Encourages Sustainable "Upcycling": Participating in DIY toy-making drives (using old t-shirts or cardboard) provides enrichment for shelter pets without the environmental cost of manufacturing and shipping new plastic toys.
Protects Local Biodiversity: IHS advocacy for keeping cats indoors or in "catios" protects Idaho’s native bird and small mammal populations while keeping pets safe from environmental hazards.

No Kings 3.0
We have the power and are claiming it together. No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.
When our families are under attack and costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option. We will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence.
On March 28th, rise up, take to the streets, and say it loud: no thrones, no crowns, no kings. We’re not watching history happen—we’re making it. Join us.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
